layers/gradients (psp8)

I took this original picture, and cropped/resized it.

It came out like this.

Next I duplicated the background layer and went to Adjust -> Hue and Saturation -> Hue/Saturation/Lightness and put the Saturation to -90.
Next I went to Adjust ->Brightness and Contrast -> Brightness/Contrast and put the Brightness at -100.

Set the desaturated layer to Screen to get:

I made a new layer and filled it with color #000040. I set this layer to Exclusion at 100% opacity.

After that I made another layer and filled it with the color #D7C79B and set the layer to soft light at 100% opacity.

Next I made another layer and using a gradient by crumblingwalls I filled the layer with it and set it to Overlay at 100%

Next I copied the background layer again and dragged it to the top of all the layers and set it Soft Light

Next, I used this gradient and set it to color at 25%.
