Manga Black and White Coloring

I'm trying to color black and white manga pictures. Usually, except in the color artworks, the skin is white, no shadow. But sometimes there is on big manga pages. Is there any way to make the skin look okay? I know some tutorials, but the skin is one color only, so it looks... weird. I've tried to mask it with some textures and/or gradients but it's still no good. What I've been trying to do is behind the cut!
