Photoshop 3?

I have photoshop version 3 that I got from a friend. I've been trying sooo hard to make icons! Anyways i can't figure out how to save them in the a form that lj accepts like png gif or jpg they all save as psd or something like that. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank You!
