Bitmap Font Help?

I've been using PSP8 for several months now with a record of success, more or less, but one thing continues to elude me: how to get bitmap fonts to look half-way decent when they're smaller than 10 pt. I can make them took fabulous with Photoshop, but alas, my trial expired, and now I'm forced to use PSP for text effects (which makes me want to cry, almost).

If anybody can help me, I will grovel at your... er, keyboard :)
