Photoshop CS question

So Im a pretty active member here and you guys are always so helpful.

I have PS CS2 and sometimes when Im making an icon the brush color will be set on a color but it will still show up as white. Does anyone know what would cause this? It doesnt happen all the times but it has happened quite a few times already.
