My Second Tutorial!

First things first.
Open and crop 100x100 with the subject to either the right or left not centre. Resize image to 100x100 pixels and sharpen if your image can handle it and blur skin if it needs it (I didn’t to this icon). Duplicate layer and set to screen and then duplicate base layer again and set to soft light (I faded the opacity to 30% because my image was too dark).
Flatten image and then we can get started!

We now have this: Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Step One: Duplicate the icon to save for later steps.
Step Two: Desaturate the icon

Step Three: Image hosted by Photobucket.com Apply this gradient and make sure the yellow is over the subject.
Step Four: Set the gradient layer to soft light at 50% opacity.

Step Twelve: Apply the same gradient in Step Ten only flip it horizontally so that the dark is on the other side.
Step Thirteen: Set it to softlight at 100%.

Step Fourteen: Create a new layer and open up your brushes.
Step Fifteen: Draw a cross in the top right hand corner (or wherever yours suits) using a wet media brush in white (a brown if the background is too light) at 10 pixels (the brush I used was automatically set to 28 pixels).
Step Sixteen: Set the brush layer to an opacity of 50%.

Step Seventeen: I typed "enrique" in black 10 pt Times New Roman with a space between each letter.

Step Eighteen: Set that to overlay and then duplicate the layer to make it stronger (on some images this doesn’t work so just use a dark brown text colour).
Step Nineteen: Flatten Image

Finally save it! Hope you enjoy it, I would love to see your creations!
These are two other icons I have created using the same technique:
