Tutorial #4: Simple, D.N. Angel

Another tutorial. Not extremely difficult, it does use some masking and adjustment layers. Basic knowledge is recommended.

Here's our base. Pretty basic. Just this image cropped down to 100x100.



First I used a Color Balance adjustment layer and messed with the options a little bit until I got this. Then I made a Mask layer and got rid of the very blue edges.



Then I made a Channel Mixer adjustment layer and set it to Monochrome. Then I turned the opacity to 42%



I wasn't quite satisfied with it, so I duplicated the base layer and sharpen it. Then I changed it to 61% opacity.



I made a new layer, and then I used the Rectangular Marqee Tool and went around the icon. Right-Click>>Stroke using the color white.



Then I used the Rectangular Marqee Tool again but this time just for a small area on the bottom. Also, this time I Rick-Clicked>>Fill instead of Stroke. Fill it with white.



Made a new layer, and then I used this brush by _fullyalive and went up to Filter>>Blur>>Motion Blur on that brush. I think it was set at Distance>>6px.



Then I set it to Color Burn, 100% opacity.



Now duplicate that layer, and move it to the top, on his hair.



Now for text! I started with Georgia at 18pt and made a "+". Then made a new layer with more text, this time at 3pt and just some random text. For both of these use #746888 and set at Color Burn.



Using that same color, #746888, at 18pt, and Georgia, I typed "D.N. Angel' and positioned it near the bottom. Don't set this one to Color Burn.
