General Hospital Icon Tutorial.

1. Prepare your base. I cropped a not quite square section out of mine, sharpened it once and resized so its larger dimension was 100 px. I then set the canvas size to 100 x 100.
>>

2. Duplicate the layer 3 times
Top: desaturated soft light 100%
Middle: desaturated screen 100%
Bottom: screen 100%
Base: keep as is

Merge these layers together, duplicate and set the top one to screen

3. Take your original picture, and crop out a larger section. Sharpen once and resize so it has a height of 50 px. Duplicate once, and line up to the left of your other image, kind of like how I have mine, but no pressure. Merge those two together, duplicate twice and set both to screen, drag on top of the other layer, and cut out the parts that don't fit.
>> >>

4. Add a border. Using the pencil tool at 1 px in black, draw a frame around the entire icon as well as a vertical line separating the pictures.
>>

5. Take this texture and paste it into a new layer between the duplicated base and the side bar. Set to screen 80%
>>

6. Use the rectangular marquee tool to select a part of your base. Copy and paste it between the textured layer and the side bar. Go to layer effects and give it a 1 px black stroke

7. Paste the same texture into a new layer at the top. Set to Linear Burn 100%

8. Add some text and brushes, and you are done!
