Tutorial #3: Repeating picture, Ashlee Simpson
A tutorial for this icon was requested by xrapeme. Fairly basic, written for PS7, but my be translatable. I did have to completely redo the icon for this tutorial since I didn't save a .PSD for it, but it should be nearly the same.

Alright. I started with this picture from Ashlee-Star.com. Crop it down to 100x100. I kept the image of Ashlee a little smaller than the white frame.

Then I made a Curves Adjustment Layer and upped the brightness a little bit by moving the curve up. If you don't know how to make an adjustment layer, read my other tutorial. And I went to Filter>>Sharpen>>Sharpen to give it a little more ping.

Then I moved the image over so there was a small white area next to it.

I created a new layer, and then I Right-Clicked>>Stroke and made a 4px white border around the whole image.

But I didn't want it on the far left side so I took the Eraser, put it on Block, and erased that side

Then I used the Rectangular Marquee Tool and made a box around the area I wanted to put the other half of the image in.

Then I moved it over, copied, and pasted! I took the area around her nose. Make sure when you're copying that you're on the layer where the picture is, not the border! Also make sure to move this layer (copied layer) up ABOVE the border layer.

I moved it over. Now as you can see you have a little section of the copied part that's sticking out. So I took the Rectangular Marqee Tool again and selected the little area that didn't match up with the rest and deleted it.

Now create a new layer. I then took a brush from miggy and sized it down to 52pt. Using the color white, I put it in the lower right corner. Then I duplicated that layer tiwce to make it stronger.

Now go down to your base (the ashlee pic) and duplicate that layer. Drag it so it's on top of all the layers but that brush you just added. Now position it so her face is in the box. You'll have to resize it a bit. Erase if there are any parts sticking out of the box.

Now for text. I used Georgia at 3pt, white, and bolded. I wrote some random little text, stuck it in the corner and I was done!

Hope that made sense. Have a question? - Leave me a comment and I'll try to help you. Please do not copy the icon exactly, copy the tutorial, or redistribute the tutorial as your own.
