Tutorial #2: Adjustment Layers, Keiko Agena

My second icon is slightly more difficult. It uses Adjustment Layers, so I'm not sure if it will be translatable to PSP. Since I'm not going to explain Adjustment Layers in-depth, having a basic knowledge of them is required.

Here's our base. Just taken out of the main picture which is from Keiko Agena.com.

Let's start with an Adjustment Layer. So in case you don't know where the button's at:

A little diagram for you. ^^ Anyway, click on the button and click on Color Balance. This should open up a screen like this:

Mess with all the settings until you get the coloring you want. I came up with this:

Now for another Adjustment Layer! This time we'll make a Curves one. A screen like this should come up:

I just moved the curve up a bit to make it a little brighter. Just click on it and drag it up - just a little bit. Not a whole bunch or else it wil get REALLY bright. You could do Brightness/Contrast, but I always felt like I had more control with this.

One more Adjustment Layer, I promise. This time make a Channel Mixer layer.

Now click the Monochrome box. Click ok.

Change the opacity to 59% to give it a vintagey look. Now click the Rectangular Marquee Tool and select an area around her face.

Now go up to Select>>Inverse. Then fill it with white. (make sure you're on a new layer! It won't work on the Adjustment Layer)

Now Select>>Inverse again and create a new layer. Right click and click on Stroke. I used #51625F because it went well with my coloring.

Create a new layer. Now do the same thing - Right-click>>Stroke on the outside of the icon to create a border. Use the same color as before, #51625F.

The last two steps are simple. I created a new layer, used a heart brush by miggy. (I had to resize it to 31pt) The color I used for it was #51625F, the same as the borders. I duplicated the layer with the heart on it to make it stronger and darker.

Now for some tiny text! I used Georgia at 3pt at #51625F and wrote some tiny text...I'm not even sure what it is! I positioned if over the heart like so:

And we're done! It's kind of complicated so if you're confused leave a comment and I'll try to help you! Please don't copy this tutorial directly, steal the icon, or claim the tutorial as your own.
