Tutorial #1: Simple, Alexis Bledel
I haven't written a tutorial in a long time, so I thought I'd start with something simple. This is a very basic icon, with a few layers. I wrote this with PS7, but it may be translatable.
====>
First, you want to make a base. I started out with this picture from Alexis Bledel Fan Just crop it down to 100x100.

Create a new layer. Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool (the little dotted box in the corner in you're uisng PS7). Select the whole icon and use the Stroke tool by right clicking and clicking on Stroke. Make it 5px. Now you're icon should look like this.

Making another new layer, click the line tool and set it to 1px. Make a straight line down the icon, like so:

Now let's add some text. I used the font Carpenter ICG (if you don't have it you can use something else) at 14pt and #000043. Write some words. (I don't want you to directly copy mine so I'm not going to tell you what I put. It's not really hard to tell though) Now go to Edit>>Transform>>Rotate 90 CW. This should make it sideways. Position on the line like so:

Then I used Georgia, size 9pt and the same color as before, #000043. Write some more text.Do the same thing as before, Edit>>Transform>>Rotate 90 CW. Position that so it's on the other side of the line.

Now you could stop here, but is that very pretty? I didn't think so. So now let's color it. Create a new layer. Go up to Image>>Adjustments>>Color Balance. Mess with the settings a bit to get the coloring you want. Make sure to click all three areas -

- to get the best results. I ended up with this:

Yours isn't going to look exactly like mine, which is fine. Choose the coloring you think looks best. And for the last step, I created a new layer and added this simple brush of diagonal lines ( made by pyrogrl ) Set it to Soft Light, and 28% opacity.

And you're done! Told you it was simple.

If you have questions just leave a comment and I will try to help you. Please do not copy this icon directly or take this tutorial as your own.
