Icon Tutorial #001 - Yuna
Yes, it's very old. But I do love how it came out, so I thought I'd post it over here, since I wasn't confident it would be well accepted.
This tutorial assumes you know the basics of Adobe Photoshop. It's probably translatable to other Adobe Photoshop versions, as well as PSP. (I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS 8.0). However, it is generally beginner friendly.
I shall transform:
to
This is a texture heavy icon, despite how it looks. I only used one gradient, by yours truly :)!
First of all, you...crop your image into a base! I've lost my original image, but this is a fairly basic, boring base.

Feel free to use it if you like, for practice purposes.
So, now you have your base. Next, we'll be using this texture (by
candycrack) at Soft Light, 100%.

Then, add this texture (by
condensation) at Soft Light, 100%

At the moment, your icon should be starting to take on the slightly pinkish tint, as shown below (I suppose if you don't like pink, try using less...red/pink textures ^^)

Next, add this texture at Soft Light, 100%, to give it a slight grainy effect (texture by
condensation). And yes, the result of spamming soft light WILL give you a VERY bright/light coloured icon. I love soft light XD;;.

Alrightee! Time to try something different. Add this texture (by
candycrack) at Color Burn, 100%.

And then this blurred texture (I think it's by
dearest...I think. Let me know if it isn't/is!) at Soft Light, 100%.

Great, we're almost done with the basic icon. One more texture, at Soft Light, 100% (by
inxsomniax)

You're done with the base, huzzah. This is my final outcome :)

Now, it looks nice just like that, as a textless icon, yes? But because this was a lyrical challenge, I added the following text to it, from the song "Love of the Loveless" - The Eels (I think o_O)
Empty hearts and voices talking
I tried using colours fairly close to the base icon. For the text 'empty hearts' and 'voices talking', I used the colour #CE95E4 (70% and 60%, respectively), and for the huge amp, I used #CE95E4 at 15%. I used the font Arial for all the text. Yes, I'm boring.
So yay, be creative and show me what you got ;o! For me, it would be my Best Overall icon,

Spare me, it's my first ever icon tutorial. And yes, it was a simple one, because I'm lazy XD;;. I still wonder how on earth did I win with that icon too o_O;;.
Also, that particular icon is free for taking. Just leave a comment letting me know, and credit me in your keywords/comments.
