I got bored so..first tutorial! For PS CS.

I've been lurking around here, using the tutorials for ages, and I finally decided to join ane make a tutorial of my own today. It was made in PS CS, but it may be transafable to other prgorams.

We will be learning how to make from This

You may see some techniques/brushes/whatever else you used on your icon tutorial on here. Because, I've learned most of my icon-making skills from here, so yeah.
Anyways, lets get started!

Here is the image I am using(from cap_it):

Crop the image to your liking, and resize to 100x100 pixels.

Now, I think the image is way too dark, and I just don't like the colouring of the icon in general. So now, I'm going to duplicate the image once. Now, destaurate the duplicated image (Image>>Adjustments>>Desaturate) and put that layer's blending mode to screen. Merge the image down(or Flatten), and Sharpen the icon once or twice, depending on your image. For the image I used, I sharpened the picture once. Blur the skin and other areas of the icon a bit, if the sharpen tool made it look grainy.

Now I'm more staisfied with the coloring, but I still think it could be better. So, I make a new layer and fill it with #040213, and set this layer's blending mode to exclusion.

Now, I'm going to add my border onto the image. Paste the image below onto your icon, and set it at 'Screen'. The original Brush from teh_indy

After pasting it on, your icon should look like this:

Now, I'm going to add the following texture from Gender

Set the texture's layer mode to 'Soft Light' at 63%. Now, I like this texture, but I don't like the lens flare or whatever you call it on it. So, erase that(unless it matches with your picture), and some of the are above it aswell, as I think it's a little bit too green for me. Now, take the blur tool at a strength of 100% and blur the area you erased with the area around it that you didn't erase. This is so the non-textured area blends smoothly with the area that has texture on it.

Now, for the text. I made a new layer, and made a small black bar at the bottom of the icon, and wrote 'Harry Potter' in 8pt Georgia font, all caps with spaces between each letter.

That's it! Here's the final product:

*Images may go down at some times, please wait 10 minutes and then come back if the images are not showing up for you.

This is my first tutorial, so please give me some feedback.
If you use this, I'd love to see what you make ^__^
