A problem with my text...

I'm having a problem with my text...I don't know why it's happening to me, and it's stressing me out! I'll type something, and it doesn't look like it should anymore...for example, the icon I'm using was made before I encountered this problem. Now all I can do with that same font, same size is

I don't know what happened to my text! I'm in Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0, if that helps.
