Photoshop CS2 - files saving too light

I used to not have this problem... then I had to redo my computer, and when I reinstalled photoshop I noticed all my saved files (ie: .jpg, .png, etc) were much lighter than the .psd I was working on. (note, this is all new files I create, not ones that I had made prior to redoing my computer) I had this problem a long time ago, but can't for the life of me remember what settings in the "color settings" box fixed it. I scanned the memories, but nothing jumped out as useful. Can anyone help or, well, point me to some previous post that I missed?
