Photoshop CS and Imageready Tutorial
Learn how to make this! Simple steps in Photoshop CS to create a "ripple" effect on text from a simple base.

EDIT:: Make sure that you set the texture to overlay!

Step 5: Merge the text you aren’t going to ripple
to the bottom layer so we can manipulate the
other text no problem. A Quick note on the text:
“the devil’s” and “Kiss” are two different layers.
After merging “the devil’s” click on “Kiss” on the
layer palette and rasterize it. Chaning the words beside
the text layers is a good idea so you know what order
to put things in and so you know what it the original layer.
In this case your layers should say something like "Kiss"
and then label all the ones after it with 02, 03, 04...
That way when you begin to add the frames to the animation
you can tell what order to go in. :)
Now go to Filters-->Distort-->Ripple.The default
should be 100, but that is where we’re starting
anyway. Now after you make the first ripple
change, press CTRL+J to copy that layer.
You are going to go back to Filters-->
Distort-->Ripple again and increase the amount by
10 each time. You must leave a regular version
of the text but then ripple each one after it. So the
100% ripple will go to the second layer of text.
Save your image as a PSD file and then open it in ImageReady
Count how many text layers you have, that way you can
decide how many extra frames to make. If you cannot see
the animation bar, go to Window-->Animation and it will come up.
Now in this animation we have 8 total text layers. The
regular text and 7 other distorted layers. Deselect all
of the layers and then create 7 more frames. by pressing the button
that looks like two smalls squares inside each other on
the bottom of the Animation bar. Make sure it reads 8 frames.
Make sure that you de-select all of the text layers.
Select the first frame and make it visible by clicking on the layer.
The first frame will have "Kiss" in its place and it will show
up on all the othr frames as well. Go through the animation and
create the frames one by one, with the frame numbers
corresponding to the layer numbers.
The Original text layer should be "Kiss", frame two should be
layer 2 etc. View your animation and change the speed as you
please. Select all the frames of the animation and then set
the delay to 0.2 seconds. While you still have each frame
highlighted, press the same button you did eariler to create
each individual frame and it will create 7 more frames for a
total of 14. While it's highlighted, to the very right of the
animation palette is a little arrow, press is and select the
reverse frames option. This will give us a smooth animation
and make sure you loop it forever so that the animation doesn't
stop after one run.You are now done with your new animated icon!
Enjoy it!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, that is why I am here :)
make sure you save your animation as a PSD file so you can go back and edit anything later.
And then save it as an optimized file for web viewing.
