Start off with your image. Crop the image down to 298x298. Resize it down to 98x98.
You should now have an image that looks like this. Go to adjust>>sharpness>sharpen.
Duplicate the layer. Then desaturate the top layer by hitting Shift + L. Make sure the saturation is set to 0 so the image is black and white.
Now set that layer to overlay. Right Click>>Merge All>>Flatten.
Adjust>>Brightness & Contrast>>Automatic Contrast Enhancement. This is what the box should look like before you close it.
Thats it!
Of course you can adjust the opacities as you go along.
