GIMP tutorial
Was rather happy with this icon the other day since I was bored and unable to get online. Going from
to
.
Note: Should be easily translatable to other programs as nothing is truly GIMP specific.
First step as always is to find your image and crop it down.

Simple enough right? Next we take the base image, copy it, desaturate and change the layer mode to overlay.

Now make another copy of your background and set the layer mode to burn. Take your burn tool and go around the eyes and lips more. Switch to the dodge tool and go over the background. I know it doesn't show right now but the dodge does show up later on.

On a new layer add this gradient set on overlay.
to get
Flood fill a new layer with 931d1d
and set it to overlay.
Now using this light texture by
myrasis
we use a Gaussian Blur of 50
and then set to screen.
Now it's just a matter of adding your text. I pulled a color from the yellow orange gradient (f88008), then rotated the text to fit the spacing. Make a copy of the text layer, set it to burn and then move it slightly to cast a shadow behind your original text.
