Tutorial 02 - Vibrant Bases/Icons; PSP 8

For PSP8.
This is a guide to getting bright, vibrant bases/icons.
I started with this high quality picture of Mr. Zacky Vengeance which was taken by the lovely liveonrelease @ GJ.
Crop, resize, sharpen the eyes, soften the skin, and mirror (image>mirror or ctrl+m). Sharpen once.
You now have this:

Duplicate base. Desaturate, and set to screen @ 45%:

Duplicate, drag to top. Set to softlight @ 100%:

Duplicate again, softlight @ 100%:

New layer, fill with this gradient by
crumblingwalls:

Set that gradient to overlay @ 100%. Angle is 51. You'll get this:

Remember: this is just a guide. Play with opacities and blend modes to get the effect you want.
