PS: Pink Exclusion Effect
This is tutorial #4 for me. Enjoy.
(note: LJ hates my server, so the icons may not all show up due to the amount of traffic this comm gets. If they're not showing up, refresh a few times and they will.)
Go from yay --->
to yay --->
Crop your base, like so.

Sharpen twice, and use the Blur tool to smooth out the subject's skin if it gets too grainy. I also tweaked the brightness/contrast on Gwen here by going to Image ---> Brightness/Contrast and setting the brightness to +10 and the contrast to +15.

Unlock the background layer by going to Layer ---> New ---> Layer from Background. It should now say Layer 0. Duplicate that layer, and move the layers around and delete bits of them until your subject is duplicated side by side, as shown below. It's like making a mini-blend.

Flatten the image, then duplicate the flattened layer and set to Soft Light 100%. Create a new layer, and fill with a very dark blue and set to Exclusion 100% for slightly off-white look.

Create a new layer and fill it with a bright magenta, like the color below (I believe what I have is #b52d5a). Duplicate the color layer so you have two pink layers, and set one to Screen 100% and the other to Exclusion 100%. Now, use the Rectangle Marquee tool to delete about half of each of the layers so that only one half of the image is covered with the Screened Pink, and the other half is covered by Exclusion Pink. The way I do it is by dragging the Rectangle Marquee tool until it covers half, then deleting the pink from that layer. Then I use the Magic Wand tool to select the area of pink I left, and I go to the other pink layer and delete that portion. That sounds more complicated than it is. Basically, just make sure one half is Screen and one half is Exclusion.

Add a border brush in white between the subjects, and a few other swirly or scribbly brushes if you'd like. Brushes below were made by me.

Add text and whatever other brushes you'd like to have, then flatten and save. You're done :)

Using a bright steel-blue color instead of pink will give you the same effect in blue and orange rather than pink and green. Enjoy!
P.S. - If you want to request a tutorial, go here to see my latest icons, and tell me which one you'd like to see a tut of ^_^
(I already did one of the effect on the Alexis Bledel icon a week or two ago)
