and this boy's quite spectacular

PSP 8 icon tutorial for this:

This is honestly the most boring tutorial you will ever see. The only almost-exciting part is the gradient layer. Other than that *snore*.

I began with this screencap of Harry (SS/PS) from here.

Now, assuming you have now resized, cropped, sharpened, and spiffy'd up your picture for your base, I'll show you my steps in the form of layers. You look at the following steps from top to bottom. Please: this is meant to be used as a guide to make your own icon. The outcome really depends on your base (colour, quality, etc.). You'll most likely need to experiment and tweak around on your own.

background layer, normal settings

blend mode: screen
opacity: 100%

slightly desaturated (saturation: -60, hue: 0, lightness: 0)
blend mode: soft light
opacity: 100%

flood fill colour: #010717
blend mode: exclusion
opacity: 100%

slightly desaturated (saturation: -60, hue: 0, lightness: 0)
blend mode: soft light
opacity: 100%

flattened image
(now) background layer, normal settings

desaturated
blend mode: normal
opacity: 100%
- erase the parts over Harry, leaving background b&w

new raster layer:
- add your desired text

new raster layer:
rectangular selection tool: select rectangle behind text, fill with #FBE0B5
- drag layer under text layer

blend mode: difference
opacity: 30%

brush (from image pack) by _joni
blend mode: multiply (for image pack brushes, otherwise "normal")
opacity: 100%

flatten layers, your final icon, finally!

If I've left anything out or you're extremely confused because I suck at writing tutorials (which will most likely be the case), please tell or ask me in the comments. :)
