Help!

Hello, I just got my Photoshop yesterday and I was fooling around making icons, until...jees I feel like an idiot, but I can't get the text to work, how do I put text on my icons...there I said it. I have no idea. Please help my pathetic newbieness.


EDIT: Ok that helped theres text there but you cant read it, it looks like I splattered little dots on the bottom of my icon..I feel stupider (no im sure thats not a word) by the minute.
