1st tutorial - Hermione icon
We’re going to go from this: http://www.veritaserum.com/galleries/albums/gof/promo/normal_gofpromo015.jpg to this:
Made in psp 7, but Im sure its transltable
To begin with crop and resize your picture to 100x100. Personally, I wanted her face to be on the side of the icon so I got this:

Duplicate your base layer. Take your lasso tool and set it to either free hand or point-to-point; I prefer point-to-point. Drag it around her lips – and shapen (effects>sharpen>sharpen) the marked area once. Go to ‘Unsharp mask’ (effects>sharpen>unsharp mask) and place it on these settings:

Do this with the eyes and the earring too – and if there are other things that you want to have sparkling on your icon. Set it to Normal, 79%
Create 2 new layers: Flood fill the bottom one with black and set it to color 17%. Flood fill the top one with a dark purple; in my case it was: #720795. Set it to Lighten 38%.
You should have something like this now:

Make a new layer. Take your paint brush and set it to size 40 or something – Round, Hardness 50, Opacity 100, Step 25, Density 100 – and color the corner in like this

Gaussian blur it at about – 14,50. Set it to soft light 100%.
So far so good. Place this border on:

On another layer I clashed some pink and purple colors, gaussian blurred it (like before) and I came up with this:

Set it to lighten 33% - Your icon should look like this now:

I opend up my text/writing box, and wrote: “L J” in a purple color (#5C2A79) using the Fleurons font Your settings should look like this:

I then took my paintbrush (size 2, round, hardness 24, opacity 65, step 25, density 100) and filled the space inbetween the letters. You might have to add more spaces in. Rotate it 90 degrees. You should end up with something like this:

I placed it opposite Hermione. Make a new layer and draw a box that fits into the little, fancy border you just made. I did it in a light puple color (#BE81D2). Put that layer beneath the fancy border and set it to ‘Multiply 61%’. And you’re done! It should look like somewhat like this:

Now you can also add text if you’d like, for example I did on this icon:

I hope you liked it and you found it useful. I’d love to see what you made from it!
