graphics program for Mac OS - GIMP help

I looked in the memories and the only programs suggested were for making animations in Mac OS. I don't care about animations. Yes, I know Adobe Photoshop is made for Mac, but I have a hard time with the idea of spending $600 to make icons.

I downloaded GIMP for Mac, and it's telling me I need X11. Um, I think it's already installed, unless I'm mistaken. Any suggestions? (Either for GIMP or other cheap but good programs)

ETA: Solved! Was able to install X11 and run GIMP. :D
