Program: PSP 8
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of the program, as well as layers & blend modes.
Preparing the Base
I started with this image of Gemma Ward, cropped it into a perfect square (1132x1132), but DID NOT resize it.
I then took my smudge tool (size 15, opacity 37) and smudged her face avoiding her eyes, lips, and nostrils. I took my sharpen tool (size 13, opacity 52) and sharpened her eyes and lips. Then I resized it too a 100x100 square and sharpened it once.
Making the Icon

Right, so this our base.
Duplicate base, set to screen @ 100% opacity. Desaturate (shift+h) to -28%.
Duplicate base again, drag to top, set to soft light @ 100%. Sharpen once.
Create a new layer, flood fill with a dark blue (#0B1837), set to Exclusion @ 50%.
New layer, flood fill with a medium brown (#937760), set to Burn @ 44%.
New layer - peachy brown (#CCBCA9) - Multiply @ 37%
New layer - light blue (#67CDCC) - Burn @ 28%
New layer - I added a line of tiny text to the bottom right. Courier New, size 1, all caps, white, kerning 1000.
New layer - I added 3 x's on top of the tiny text. Times New Roman, size 10, bold, #621912. Lowered the opacity to 76%.
And you're done!
As this is my first tutorial, feedback is greatly appreciated.
It is rather vague for beginners, so if anyone has any questions, feel free to comment.
