Trouble erasing gradients/fill layers in PS
I read the FAQ, looked at all of the PS troubleshooting posts in the archives, and read more than a month's worth of posts, but could not find an answer to my problem.
I have Photoshop CS. It used to be that when I used a gradient or fill layer, I could erase it directly. (The eraser marks would show up on the layer mask linked to the gradient/fill layer on the layer menu.) Now, when I attempt to do so, although the eraser step shows up in my history, no color has been erased from the picture and the layer mask looks like it has been untouched. So, if I want to erase part of the gradient/fill layer, I have to rasterize it first. This is annoying as I often want to tweak the color later, which is much more difficult (or nearly impossible) to do with a rasterized layer.
Does anyone have any idea what I did to make my life so complicated? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
