Photoshop CS Tutorial: AJ McLean
My first tutuorial using Photoshop CS!
Hey everyone!
This is my first tutorial, so as asked by most newbies, go easy on me :D It's rather simple, and focuses more on coloring and adjustments. I think it's relatively easy, so if you're new to Photoshop CS, I think this may be a safe tutorial to start with.
I'll be showing how to go from
to
starring the delicious AJ McLean.
The tutorial isnt terribly image extensive, but there is a screen shot of my layers. Hopefully you can follow the steps and use the picture as a guideline.

1. First, crop your base to 100x100. I suggest sharpening at least once and smoothing over any grainy parts. I also suggest taking the sharpening tool and using it on the eyes and the mouth. Adjust the colors and brightness/contrast to your heart's desire.
2. Next, duplicate your base, making a new layer. Desaturate (ctrl+shift+u) and then play with the contrast levels. I wanted to make sure that the dark parts were especially vibrant.
3. Next, create a new layer (ctrl+shift+n) and then Fill it (edit>>fill or shift+F5) with a pink color. I used #d20959. Set this layer to Lighten.
4. Next, create a new layer (ctrl+shift+n) and then Fill it (edit>>fill or shift+F5) with a dark blue color. I used #2e0a63. Set this layer to Exlusion.
5. Now, duplicate your base, making a new layer again. Drag it to the top, so it's on top of all of your layers. Set it to Soft Light.
6. Merge (Flatten) your layers. I chose to show it without text or other brushes, but feel free to add your own.
You should end up looking something like this:
