History states PS CS2

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I thought there was a way to change the default number of history states on the history palette, but I can't figure out how. I keep loosing all my states when I cycle through various blending modes, and it's starting to make me a little wonky here. >< I'm using PS CS2, and banging my head against my keyboard.
