This is kind of a multi part question I suppose

I looked through the memories and though I saw lots of PS colorization tutorials, they don't really help me with what I am looking for...and there weren't many PSP ones.

Basically, I've been fooling around with various ways of colorizing images...color replacement tool, hue/sat, manual color correction tool, even the plain old colorization option. However, none of them give me QUITE the different effects I am going for.

Perhaps someone could give me some tips on which tools or techniques to use for each of these very different types of colorization?

I'd really appreciate it.

In this case, it's very clear to me that different parts of the icon were individually colorized (and various gradients/textures were probably also used), and I assume the magic wand tool would come in handy, or else various layers with lots of erasing, but HOW exactly would you go about colorizing each part so dramatically? The hue/sat and colorization tools turn the darker places of the image a different color but only give a slight tint to the lighter parts. And turning it into a 2bit image and back didn't help either. This one I'm very interested in understanding...please help! :)

In this case, I am interested in knowing how to simply turn a photo into the colorized equivalent of a greyscale image. I've desaturated and then filled another layer with color and lowered it's opacity and adjusted the blend modes, but it still doesn't quite have the look I want. I've even used the color replacement tool or manual color correction tool after turning it into a 2bit image and back, but the effect is too crude. I feel like this should be really simple, and it probably is, but I'm missing some key step here.

This is probably the most complex one...in short, I'm basically curious of the order in which you would do this...color first or greyscale? And would you manually color in the hair with the color replacement tool or freehand select the hair and then apply a colorization command to it?

I know this is a long post...but these various things have been eating away at me for the past few days, and I'd just like some input.

Thanks!
