Tutorial 2. Travis Barker
Here's a tutorial to go from THIS picture to
Made in PS 5.5. Should be translatable and what-not. I'm not going into huge detail over little things. You should be able to know what most things do if you know your program.
Kinda image heavy. 18 pictures total. Please don't copy exactly. Show me what you've done with it afterwards please!
Forgive me if this is confusing. I'm not so great at writing tutorials and this one was really tough. Any contructive criticism would be helpful! Thanks.

First I start off with THIS lovely picture of the even lovelier Travis Barker. Go Image>Duplicate twice. Exit the original. Minimize the first copy. Crop the picture so the focus of the picture is to the right. ![]() This next part is just my little thing I usually do with large pictures. After cropping, go Image>Image Size. Put setting as in the example below. ![]() Do whatever you usually do to make the picture look better. I smooth out the skin using the Blur Tool, with the pressure set to 66%. It helps for me to zoom in sometimes, if that helps you at all. I use the Sharpen Tool, pressure at 50% and click once or twice on the eyes, nostrils and lips. I go Filter>Sharpen>Sharpen then fade to 80%. ![]() Open up the second copy of the picture and select a longer, skinnier section of the picture. Copy and Paste on a new canvas. Resize to 200 pixels tall. ![]() Fix the longer skinnier picture by smoothing the skin and sharpening. I smooth the skin and sharpen using the same settings as before. ![]() Select All (Ctrl+A), Copy (Ctrl+C), and Paste (Ctrl+V) on the other picture. I know this one doesn't look exactly like the original, but close enough. ![]() Go Layer>Flatten Image after you have the pictures in the places you want them. Go Layer>Duplicate Layer and click OK. Set the duplicate to Soft Light and Desaturate (Image>Adjust>Desaturate). ![]() Resize (Image>Image Size) to 100 x 100 pixels. ![]() Sharpen the duplicated Soft Light layer twice. Opened up this gradient by ![]() Set to Color at 45% opacity. ![]() I got the color #7E746E from the icon (some where on the car). On a new layer, I used a plain 3 pixel border brush, and went around the outside, and then over the line seperating the two pictures. Shown on black to see where the brush is. ![]() I didn't like how much it stood out from the icon, so I put the gradient layer on top of it. ![]() Using the brush layer, I selected the bottom of the icon and filled in with the same color #7E746E. ![]() I used Arial Black in italics, at 8 point and typed 'TRAVIS BARKER' in black with 250 kearning. ![]() Type any words you want as tiny text. I used Arial in italics, size 2 point with 350 kearning and two spaces between words. ![]() Then using Arial Black, in size 8 point with 350 kearning I used 'greater than' signs (>) enough times to go across the icon. ![]() Then using a new layer, use the pen tool in black. Hold down the Shift key to make a straight line across the bottom. ![]() Then save and you're done! |
