PSP 7 Tutorial - Transferable

Simple, PSP 7 tutorial, should be transferable, especially made for all Jack-Kate fans :)

Today we'll be going from to .

First you want an image to start with, obviously. I chose one from my favorite place in the world, Lost-Media.

Then I resized and cropped it and placed it to the left of the 100 by 100 canvas. Usually, I don't like cutting Jack's head off like that, but this picture made me way too excited that I didn't want to distract myself too much by Jack's hotness and decided to instead focus a little more on Kate. Plus it looks cool with it way off to the left like that. I also sharpened it twice, because it was way too blurry for an icon.

I think that it's a bit too harsh right now, don't you think? Using these settings, I smoothed out the background and both Kate and Jack's face(but not too much of Jacks, I don't want to get rid of his lovely stubble) to make it look a little more...nice.

made it go from ->

Much better. The next thing to do is to duplicate that layer, desaturate it, and set it to Soft Light. I don't usually do this with my images, but this is a special picture to me, so it deserves special attention ;)

It should now look something like this:

Kate's eyes are a bit dark and her skin looks kinda weird, so I duplicated the original base image, brought it to the top, and set it to screen at 72%. Makes her skin look a little nicer.

It did lose some of that dark feel, so I duplicated the desaturated-soft light layer and brought it up to the top, once again, 100%.

The last thing I did to the original image before all the nice effects was duplicate the original base and set it on Normal 28%. It brings a bit of the background back and makes the image a little less harsh, but still keeps the effects bright and out there. It's something I definitely love doing now, but isn't necessary. It changes it very subtley.

Now for the pretty effects that make icons nice and unique. First, take this gradient from crumblingwalls(I think?) and set it to soft light, 100%. Makes the image look a lot brighter and personally, more normal.
->

Then take this next gradient (from ?) and set it to Lighten, 100%. The blue kind of acts as an exclusion layer while the red brightens it up some.
->

Next, I opened up a new image and made a small black line and pasted it as a new layer on the right. Then I pasted a small box brush(www.candycrack.net) on the top right, with half of it off the picture.
+ =

Looks nice, but I'm a massive sucker for small text and filling open spaces, so I took this small text brush and placed it next to the box and the line to get this:
->

Last step! All that black looks kind of out of place, since Kate and Jack's hair have become slightly blueish from the lighten layers, so I took one last gradient and set it to Lighten 100%.
->

And that's it! It's really just a simple tutorial that ends up looking nice and like it took forever to make it. I hope this helped, it's only my second tutorial, and I'm not really sure how much sense it made.
