My first tutorial!!
Alright, this is going to be my first tutorial D: so please go easy on me and help me if anything is too confusing xD
A while back, I had asked how to make an effect for an icon like it was shattering and falling apart. Well, today, I'm going to show you how :D I'm going to be using this picture to get an effect like this icon!! Hope you enjoy!
Oh, this tutorial is for Photoshop. I don't know how translatable it would be, because the brush website I use makes only PS brushes... sorry...
First off, you notice that I have a brush that looks like a baseball was thrown at the picture and it shattered like a window.
1) Getting the brush
this particular brush comes from Pretty Brush. Go there, click on the tab for brushes, click on Shapless Things page two. Download Broken 1 brush. (page four also has broke 2-4 if you want to try those out)

make sure to install them :D
2) Now, to prepare the icon
+ What I first did was made a new layer.
+ Back to the base. Using the eyedropper tool, I selected a very light color to use.

The circled area on the pic is the area I searched for a color. The color, incase you can't get it, is
or #D2C8B8.
+ Fill your blank layer with that color.
+ Make a copy of this layer. So now, you should have these layers:

+ Next, make a new layer under the two #D2C8B8 layers. Fill this with white. Set it to:
Opacity: 62%
Fill: 59%
(the two #D2C8B8 are invisible right now)
+ Turn on the first #D2C8B8 layer and set it to:
Blending Mode: Vivid light
Fill: 56%
(now only the top #D2C8B8 layer is invisible)
+ Turn on the second #D2C8B8 layer and set it to:
Blending Mode: Soft light
MAKE SURE NOT TO CHANGE THE OPACITY OR THE FILL!!!
+ Next, duplicate the base layer (the picture of Lenne) and drag it to the top.
+ Set that layer to:
Blending Mode: Overlay
Opacity: 62%
Fill: 63%
+ Go to the original base layer (the very bottom layer) and sharpen it ONLY ONCE
~+~ That's it for preparing the icon. If you think it's too dark, feel free to mess around with the settings and stuff like that.~+~
3) Adding the brushes and effects.
+ Merge all layers together by pressing ctrl+shif+e (merge visible)
+ Underneath the main layer, make a new layer and fill it with any color you want that you would to show through after we make the falling pieces effect. I choose black, but you should use whatever color you think would look best.
+ Select the upper 2/3 of the icon, and cut it. Now you should be left with Lenne's jaw and the black background.

+ Now paste the upper 2/3 of Lenne's face in a new layer. Now it makes a full face and you can't see any of the black.

+ On the image of Lenne's face *the upper two thirds* you can now start using the brush that I had you get earlier. You will have to make it smaller to fit on the icon. Make the other two layers invisible.
- Use the brush as you wish, but don't make it look too crowded and make sure you can still see Lenne's face clearly enough.

+ Make that layer invisible, then click the eye next to the bottom layer of Lenne's face.
+ Change the colors so at least one is black, then make that the foreground color.
+ Go to Filter --> Texture --> Stained glass. Change it to these settings:

+ Now, comes the fun part :D :D :D!! Use your eraser tool, and start erasing some cells. Erase as many as you want, but make them jagged along the top. And make sure that it looks enough like shards are falling.
<-- that's what I got.
+ Now, all you have to do is clean up inbetween the cells and get rid of the oogly black bar that's across the top. Use your clone stamp for that one.
+ Just play around with it until you get what you like. Then, using your line tool, make a border around the 3 edges (I used black. If you didn't use black as the background color, make a border around the entire icon in black)
+ Add some text... I added the words "B r o k e n A n g e l"
And my final result!

yeah, it kinda looks like crap... give me some slack xD;;
Well, I hoped you people like the tutorial xD;; If you make an icon using the tutorial, post it and let me see :D pwease?! Thanks for reading!! xD feedback is welcomed
