I thought I would post this here because some people go over the 40k limit and can't use their icon on LJ.
Tutorial > photoshop 7 > saving your image at a high quality but at a lower file size.
You can find out what size your image is before you save by looking at the bottom of photoshop.
So, to save it to a smaller file size, go to File > Save for Web (or Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S).
Click on either the 2-up or 4-up tab. I use 2-up but it's up to you.
You can see at the bottom the sizes of the two (or four) images.
Makse sure the left (or top left) image is selected then go over to the right and change your setting while watching the size of the image change.
JPG High or PNG-24 are your best choices.
