PS - making your own brushes

this might have been posted before, but there were people asking me how to make your own brushes, so i decided it was time for me to post my first tutorial. this is for photoshop (i'm using CS) & i seriously don't know if it'll work for PSP.

i'm going to use a stock photo i got from sxc.hu, but this should also work when you want to make your own brushes from image packs.

we'll make a brush from this photo:

- first, copy & paste the image to a new file with a transparent background.
- then, you'll need to delete the background. especially with image packs with a white background, it's really easy to do so with the "magic wand" tool. if you have a more complicated picture, use magic wand & eraser as necessary.
- here's what i got:

- after this, you'll need to desaturate the image. go to Image>Adjustments>Desaturate to do so.

- your brush is almost ready. to save it as a brush, go to Edit>Define Brush Preset and give it a name you want when the little box comes up.

- you're done.
