PS7 tutorial - Drew Barrymore
Okay...I'm going to show steps on making this
in PS 7!
This is my first time doing a tutorial, be gentle ^_^
First off, I found a nice shot of Drew Barrymore from the Spring 2005 Lancôme
campaign. It's huge...so I'll thumbnail it. You can click it for the larger
size.
I cropped the photo so it would just be her eyes and part of her nose.
(Thumbnail again)
Now, there's part of a signature on her face. I zoomed in on it, about 500%,
used the cloning tool to cover it up. I placed the clone source just below the
line, then when I rounded the top of the loop I changed the position to be just
above the line. I put a circle around where I placed the source clone...
After cloning it looked like this:
Notice it's pretty visible what I tried to do, so I used smudge to blend it
in.
It looks a little better. Since the original is so freaking big, when I
resized it to 100x100 it blended in wonderfully.
1. Layer 1 - I went in to the above picture and dodged the areas around the
pupils to lighten them. I alternated between all three levels of dodging, mostly
using highlight. I used sizes 1 and 3 brushes. I zoomed in to gain more control
and get it the way I wanted. When I was done it looked like this.
2. Face 2 - I duplicated layer 1 and set it to linear dodge at 26% opacity -
doesn't look like much of a change but, oh well.
3. I did a lovely colour fill here, #FFC495
Now, doesn't look so hot since it's completely covering her face...so I
played around with the settings and ended up with darken at 60% opacity
Kinda dreamy like!
4. I wanted to get arty, so I added another colour layer of #95FFCE
Again, played around with the different settings until I found something I
liked. Set it to soft light at 69% opacity.
Whee!
5. I was thinking Drew was looking a bit washed out at this point. Instead of
deleting the sea green layer, I decided to ADD more! So, I duplicated layer 1,
played around and liked color burn at 100%.
Her pupils just suck up her eyes now. I decided to go in and erase the areas
surrounding the pupils in this layer. I zooooom in...
I got the eraser on a brush using sizes 1 & 3.
Tada! Looks something like this when you are done. Not QUITE the look I was
going for. Let's add some colour to those eyes!
6. I create a new layer and move it between the last two layers...so it's
sandwiched between no iris and sea green. I stayed zoomed in and got the paint
brush with #28BA00, using sizes 1 & 3 again. I just filled in the parts I had
erased previously.
It looks sick there, so I zoomed out and played around, landing on vivid
light 68% opacity.
7. Some people would stop here, but not ME! I decide to add a texture fill I
made.
Decided I wanted an overlay, set on 70%.
DING DING! Done ^_^
Here's an overview of my layers:
