Tutorial #2 - using cool light textures and changing color of eye

This is my second tutorial. It is simple and it requires some basic knowledge of photoshop. I use photoshop 6.0

We are going from THIS to Image hosted by TinyPic.com.

1. Crop your picture to 100X100. I usually don't put both eyes in the picture. Make sure your picture is excellent quality and very big. You have to be able to get pretty close to the eye. After you crop it, sharpen it once. You should have something like this now:

2. Now pick a small blurry brush and blur her skin. You should get something like this:

3.Duplicate your base layer twice. You should now have 3 layers of the same thing. Set the middle layer to screen. And set the top layer to soft light. You can duplicate the screen layer a couple of times if you want it to be lighter. Now desaturate the top two layers and you should get something like this:

4.Now make a whole new layer (dont duplicate another, MAKE A WHOLE NEW ONE). Set the layer to darken. Pick the color that you want the eye to be. I picked a light blue. Then pick a small brush and color the eyes. Now you don't have use darken for this. You can use anything you want to: soft light, overlay, color. They all work well. You can lower the opactiy if you think it comes out too bright or strong. You should have something like this:

5. Now we are adding these two light textures: Image hosted by TinyPic.com and Image hosted by TinyPic.com. I have no idea who made these. If you know, please tell me, and I will credit them right here. You should rotate the texture so that it works with your icon. Set both the light textures to screen. You might need to erase parts of them if they cover up the face too much. Choose a blurry brush to erase. You should get somehting like this:

6. Now just add text and a few lines of tiny text. I usually use a script or a cursive. This is my finished icon:

These are some other icons I made doing this exact same thing:

If you make an icon using this tutorial please show it to me. I am very interested to see it. If you take any of my icons, please comment and credit.

EDIT::both light textures were made by colorfilter
