PSP Tutorial

This is a tutorial for PSP 8, but it should be fairly simple to translate to other programs like PS. You will need to download the Xero Improver, Graytinter, Radiance, and Soft Vignette Plug-ins for this one. (Unfortunately they are only Windows compatible.)You can get them "HERE" in the Plug-ins section. This, like my previous tutorials, is image intensive so dial-up users be forewarned.

Go from "THIS" found at www.Starswelove.com to this:

1.)Crop your image to where you want it.

2.)Go to your Toolbar and click on Effects/Plug-ins/Xero/Improver. Adjust your settings however you want them. I set mine to Smoothness- 20, Edge Sensitivity- 30, and Sharpening- 9.

3.)Now, go to your Toolbar and click Effects/Plug-ins/Xero/Graytinter. Again, play with your settings to get your own desired effect. My settings are Overall Tint- 145, Red boost/cut- -10, Green boost/cut- 19, and Blue boost/cut- 10.

4.)Next, you need to go to your Toolbar and again click Effects/Plug-ins/ Xero/Radiance and play with those settings until you have the effect you want. I set mine to Strangeness- 245, Charm- 166, Truth- 7, and Beauty- 184.

5.)Go to your Toolbar and click Effects/Plug-ins/Xero/Soft Vignette. My settings were Gradient Type- Elliptical, I Checked Sharp, Effect Type- Background Color, Pattern Type- Square Mesh, Repeats- 0, Width- 30, Height- 30, and Strength- 200.

6.)Next you want to resize your image to 100X100 by going to your Toolbar and clicking Image/Resize.

7.)Next I opened a basic template of a 1 pixel pink border that I made. I copied and pasted it as a new layer over my base icon. I then used my eraser brush to remove the white from the edges and center, leaving only the pink border. To make erasing the white easier, I simply zoomed in on my image to 200% and changed my eraser size to 94 for the center of my icon. I lined my eraser brush up with the inner edge of my pink border and clicked once. The center of my base icon is now clear of white. Next resize your eraser brush to 2 and click and drag it along the white outer edges to get rid of those. If you slip over onto the pink, simply go to Edit/Undo and it should fix it.

8.)My pink border isn’t quite showing up how I want it so I set the layer properties (go to Layers/Properties) to Multiply. I then duplicated my layer and set the properties to Dodge.

Add whatever brushes you like to your icon. I used this baby text brush by ohpaintbrush and this heart by peachblush. Merge your layers and you have your Soft Vignette Icon.
