Okay, this isn't so much a problem that I'm having, but I'm curious to see what anyone thinks about this, so maybe this will spark some interesting ideas...

I get the vast majority of my bases by capping music videos - it works great because I can cap whatever I want, and it's really easy because I'm always watching videos anyway just for something to listen to, so I just cap as I go. However, a lot of music videos have certain coloring, lighting, whatever throughout the vid. When I make icons, I base my coloring choices off of what the picture already looks like, usually. Thus, my icons are all one color when they're all from one vid. For example, every icon from Green Day's "American Idiot" is green, all the Maroon 5 "Harder to Breathe" icons are blue, the Anna Nalick "Breathe" ones are all whitish and soft and muted. It's not really a problem, but what I'm wondering is if anyone has any advice on getting different coloring. When I use gradients, textures, etc. in a different color it tends to just look muddy and icky when it blends with the color that is there. So, any thoughts? I hope I didn't totally confuse everybody with all that...

Thanks for your input!

EDIT: I use PSP8, by the way, but please offer whatever your thoughts are regardless of program!! :)
