Need some help with Adobe ImageReady

I'm trying to cap an .avi file in IR, but I'm running into two problems. First one is that IR can't open the file. I've tried other .avi's and they seem to open just fine. Which leads me to my second problem. They open, but then I get a message saying that Quicktime is missing a component needed to play the file and it isn't on the Quicktime server. So, what I need to know is 1) is it possible to screencap on IR and 2) since my QT is missing a component, is there any way to make my default player (BS Player) the default for IR since it doesn't have any problems playing the file in the first place?
