*hates ImageReady at the moment*

I  made a freakin' icon in ImageReady and when I started it was 29k.  After about three hours or so, I finished and discoverd that the file had become 106k.  I was like WTF?!  Can someone tell me why it did this, how to prevent from happening next time, and possibly how to fix it?   I'm quite new with images and crap, so I'm having a hard time...
