my first tutorial!

hey! i've made a tutorial

from thisImage hosted by TinyPic.com to thisImage hosted by TinyPic.com

be nice, it's my first =)

i use psp9, but it can be translated into ps, gimp, other versions of psp, and anything else you have.

we'll be beginning with this pic here, which i got from www.adam-brody.com (oo i love him haha)

ONE-i assume you know how to do this, so i won't go through it all:
i cropped the original, duplicated, sharpened, merged. then i duplicated again and i used the smooth tool over adam's face and hands, 'cuase they looked a little rough. merge layers together. there. and the result is the image above.

TWO- next i dupicated it, and set the new layer to Screen at 80%. That'll get you this:

THREE- now, it looked a little dark, so i made a new layer and filled it with white (#ffffff) at set it to Dodge at 20%:

FOUR- then i added another new layer, this time filling it with a yellowy-orange-mustard color. i used #FFC954 and set the layer to Multiply at 100%:

FIVE- AHH! too yellow-y. so i made another new layer and filled it with a medium-brown color, #B69658 and set it to Color at 50%:

SIX- i want it just a teeny bit darker, so i'll take this gradient that i got from peasanticons's tutorial "Gradient". i set it to Soft Light at 28%:

SEVEN- you're done with coloring! yay! if you don't like it, you can of course tweak it a little, to your liking. i like it like this, so my next step is to make a border. i would usually use a brush, but i didn't this time. i used a different method:

~first, you'll want get your rectangular selection tool, and make a selection on your icon, leaving 3-4 pixels on the top and left side, like this:

~then, go up to Selection dropdown menu, and click Invert. Now you'll have the left and top borders selected.

~choose your favorite texture in a light sand color. i used #DCC7A6 and a texture that is already provided on PSP (the one called Grass). fill in the selection on a new layer. set it to Screen 100%, then duplicate the layer and leave it on Screen but change it to 65%.

~Duplicate the first border layer again (the Screen 100% layer) and place it below the Screen 65% layer. Fill this new duplicate with the same color you used for the border, but DONT put the texture on it (so it's only the solid color. Set this layer to Normal 65%.

~Now it's up to you how you want to put text! You're DONE! hooray! You could even add brushes if you wanted to, but I wanted to keep it simple and clean =)
