Help?

I've been having trouble in Photoshop 7 with a particular brush that I downloaded. The background of the brush text is white... and when I try to put the text onto an icon... there's always this outline of where the brush ends due to the whiteness of it. I've tried lowering the Opacity and the Fill percent but then I can't see the text very well...

I don't know if any of that made sense but if you know what I'm talking about... please help me? :)
