I can't get this effect...

I've tried a hundred times but I can't seem to get this effect. I wanna have the corner of my icon cut out like in this one:



Everytime I do it there's a white space where I want the cut to be. It's really annoying. Can someone please help me out?

Btw, this icon isn't mine and I dunno who made it.
