Icon Tutorial #03.
For this tutorial, I will try to make something out of two bases with PS7.
How to go from this
and this
to this.
Please do not copy the exact icon, try to make your own, and show me what you did with it. Comments are VERY appreciated.
I started with this base.

I made an auto contrast ( Image - Adjustement - Auto Contrast )

Then, I did an unsharp mask of 70%. ( Filter - Sharpen - Unsharp Mask )

Since the picture is really dark, I duplicated the base 4 times and set each new layer on screen, 100%. ( You may adjust the number of times depending of the base )

Then I flattened the layers ( Layer - Flatten ).
Her skin is very pixelated, so I blurred it a little with the blur tool.

Notice the difference? Now that the skin looks more soft, I duplicated the new base and set the new layer on soft light 100%.

Then I took the second base and pasted it as a new layer.

I don't want it to be on the same side of the icon, so I did edit - Transform - Flip horizontal.

I did the same steps as for the first base, which means...
The Auto Contrast.

The unsharp mask of 70%.

Duplicating it 4 times, setting each layer on screen.

Instead of flattening the image, hide the layers with the other base, and do merge visible.
Again, smoother her skin by using the blur tool.

And duplicate this layer, set the new one on soft light.

Then, to make it easier, you might want to merge the layers that are the same. This time, just merge the second layer on the first one ( merge down ) and the 4rth layer on the 3rd one.
Okay, a little trickier part.. erase the part of the second layer that hides her face on the first one. You might have to move a little your layers.
This is what I managed to get.

You might want to play with the blur tool on the edge of the top layer to make it look like it bends in each other.
Flatten the layers, again.
Make a new layer and paste this texture in it.
( made by me )
Set the layer in soft light, 100%.

Paste this texture as a new layer.
( made by me )
And set it as soft light, 100%.
Then I used this light effect, made by
colorfilter, I just changed the color of it to make it more blue/purple.

And I setted it on screen, 100%.

Then I used this texture, again made by the great
colorfilter and color changed to make it more blue/purple

Set the layer on screen, 100%.

To make the colors a little more flashy, I flattened the image again, duplicated the base and set the new layer on soft light.

For the text now.. I wanted to use a quote from the show. The text I use is "Would you like me to lie to you now?"
The "Would you like me to" and the "now?" are in Century Gothic, size 10, alias sharp.
And the "Lie to you" is in the same font, except size 16.
I also added a blue stroke of 1 pxl to each font layer.

And I also changed the fill % to 75% for each font/text layer.

Time to add the border.. A simple 1 pxl border should do. I personally chose the color 2A237A.

There we go, I hope you enjoyed, and as I said, comments are very appreciated.
