I'm buying software today...

I want to get Adobe Photoshop for iconage-galore, but I want to make sure that it can do everything I need it for, which covers playing with the coloring and effects for the bases, text, and animation. Is Adobe what I need? Does the newest version include animation software? Any input would be much appreciated.
