Help!

Ok, so here's my problem. (And I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to ask this sort of thing here, I just really don't know where else to go with it).
Last night I was working on a new layout for my website. I got the graphic mostly done, and my boyfriend got home, so I saved it as a .psd, and then merged all of the layers and tried saving it as a .png. When I get this error message about how PS CS couldn't save it as a .png. I got all confused, tried a few more times to no avail.
I shut off the computer (I'm using a PC, by the way) and decided I'd tackle this problem today.
So, I tried it again today, and it's saying the same thing. But now when I try to open any .png images, it tells me "Could not complete your request because of a problem with the file-format module interface."
0.0 I googled the problem to see if I could find anywhere with a solution, but there were only message boards with people having this problem with their Nikon's and opening .tiffs with them in PS. *tears hair out* That, and I couldn't understand any of what they were saying.

So, please, I know this is a strange question, but could anyone out there help? Or point me in the direction of another place to ask this too? *puppy eyes*
Thank you a million times over in advance.
