The Eyes Have it

I was really just playing around and trying out Forbiddenstorm's shiny texture tutorial again when I hit upon this...

Psst...Wanna know how you can make only a part of the image show through like that?

Ahh. I have to thank forbiddenstorm first for that simple shiny texture tutorial. I was too late checking it out. Just found it on the archives. Oh well, here we go in PSP 9:

So to get that icon, I followed the first few steps of that tutorial
but instead of the 42 opacity on the Duplicate-Screen layer, I increased it to 94.

Then I opened up the picture I wanted to use. Do whatever you usually do to prepare the base. With the rectangle selection tool, I selected the part I wanted to use for the bigger pix then hit Ctrl C (Copy) and go Edit-Paste as New Selection (or you won't be able to move it). Deselect (Ctrl D)
Then went back to the texture layer and pasted that part on the Duplicate layer instead. Now she has blended into the background.
I went back to the base and this time selected her eyes. Repeated the same steps and pasted that on the Original base layer (usually named Background) instead but I moved it up slightly to overlap the bigger one and voila! Now you can see her eyes clearly compared to the rest of the picture.
Then I just drew the borders with the pen tool and because I'm not very creative, "painted" a star on the top left corner for a little decoration.
Oh yeah, for icon newbies selecting and copying is the simplest way to get part of a picture on your icon instead of cropping it down straight to like 20x20.
