Full PS tutorial (CS2, but i guess it's translatable)
ok, someone has requested from me to make a tutorial on this (i am soooo sorry i forgot which lj username it was but here it is for ya...)
a tutorial on how to make this kind of RIPPED PICTURE i used as a header in my lj

WARNING: IMAGE HEAVY (and i mean it)
ok here's my piccy.......got it from http://desiringhayden.net/ (your ultimate hayden source!!!!)

now...do some preparations on the picture...make it old looking, if you're planning to add any brushes, gradients, textures DO IT NOW....it'll be really hard to do it later, trust me i've tried
here's my final product....everything is by dorky_duck
(now i'm not planning on explaining you how did i do it.....just do to your picture whatever you think it's necessary and that's it)

so...now make sure you have two layers, one is empty and the other is your pic (which you have flattened) on top......now make a new layer underneath the pic layer and name it rippie or smthn similar and fill it with white color...
</a>
now...did i mention you need basic channel knowledge for this....anyways, open up your channel palette and create a new channel, name it piccie, make sure your colors are set to b/w (or just hit D, just in case), and apply Fibers filter(Filter/Render/Fibers)....or you can just apply the clouds filter but i prefer this one...here are the settings i used....
</a>
and here's what i've got
</a>
anyways, now apply teh crystalize (on that channel) filter (Filter/Pixelate/Crystalize) with these options
</a>
now, i'm sure you knwo this, but if you don't all previews in PS are LIARS......it never turns out the same as it does on teh preview picture....but nevermind that, just play around with it until you got something similar to this
</a>
now, let's give us some space for cropping....goto Image/Canvas size and add an inch or so to both width and height of your canvas
</a>
then apply Filter/Distort/Ripple on that channel
</a>
</a>
now duplicate your newly created channel, name it rippie, and apply Filter/Other/Maximum with radius set to 3px
</a>
now apply on the rippie channel Filter/Distort/Wave with these setts
</a>
and you should get smthn simmilar
</a>
and that's about it.... the rest is easy....(not really, but easier)
duplicate piccie and rippie layers, then hide the original layers (for keeping-it-simple sake), and then goto channel piccie use magic wand tool to select the first part you want ripped, select pic duplicate and goto Layer/Layer mask/Reveal Selection, then repeat the same for the rippie layer, goto rippie channel, select the matching piece, go back to rip duplicate, and goto layer/layer mask/reveal selection...merger duplicates (again keeping it simple)
</a>
there's your first piece.....
now continue doing that with all pieces, and always remember to copy the original pic and rip layers, and not apply on them...
here's my final product
</a>
now, to make it more realistic looking, move and rotate a few of those layers...
</a>
and voila...there's your ripped pic...
PLS..DON'T COPY MY HAYDEN RIPPED PIC, I'VE JUST MADE IT AND I ALREADY LOVE IT!!!!
i don't want all credit for this tutorial, i've actually learned this technique from a croatian PC magazine called BUG magazine....
if anyone has any questions lemme know....
and PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE POST ALL YOU MAKE....i wanna see it...
(it took me 3 hours to make this tutorial work fine, and hopefully you'll spend less time making something out of it....)
ps. to make this even more understandable i need to change the bacground of my post....does anyone knwo how do i do it, and am i allowed to?)
