my first tutorial..be kind?

Learn how to go from this to this using PS CS!:D

so firstly, get your wonderous base of the lovely macaulay culkin, aka roland from saved:D

duplicate that bad boy six times; set the first two layers to screen, third to multiply, four, five and six to soft light.
desaturate five and six.

you should have this:

now sharpen layer six with the unsharp mask, with your settings like so:

now mac looks a tad pixelly, so we wanna smoothen his skin and some other parts of the picture out, so that we can.. make it..um. smooth?
so flatten your layers.

take your mofo of a blur tool, size 4 and strength at 50. and smoothen him outttttt baby- really it's best to only smoothen out the places where you have more space; like his cheeks, forehead and shirt- try to stay away from delicate bits like his eyes, hair and wrinkles in his clotheeeees- you want those parts to stay as clear as possible.

well i do, anyway.

this gradient by crumblingwalls on a new layer, 100 opacity and set to overlay.

to get this:

flatten your image.

now make two new layers and use this gradient, also by crumblingwalls.

set the first to soft light, 100 and the second to color burn, 33.

now duplicate your background layer and drag it to the top, desaturate it and set it to 100 at soft light.
flatten again.

now we select the left hand side of mac's face and press ctrl+j to make this selection a layer.

drag it riiiiight over to the veeeeery edge of the left of the icon.

desaturate and duplicate, set the duplicated layer to screen and flatten.

now make a weeee selection between the two and fill with white.

use this brush (i think it's one of teh_indy's, but i'm not suuure..), but only on the very right of your icon. slap it on there in whatever way and colours suit your fancy. i used it in black first and then white over the top.

now use this light texture from dearest and delete any parts covering mac.

flatten.

now i just randomly pressed letters on my keyboard in size 2, times new roman to add the tiny text for the icon.
i also decided the colours weren't quite sharp enough so i duplicated the layer at multiply, 19%, to bring them out a little more.

and there you have it!
hope it wasn't too crappy. ♥
