Non viewable text?

I've poked around in the memories, and I can't find this matter, so I'm hoping someone can help me.

Lately, when I've tried to add wording on a nearly-finished icon, I've noticed that my text curser is nearly impossible to see (it's there, but really, really teeny). Moreover, when I type on the text layer I've created, I can't see anything (even though the text does show up on the layer box I've allocated to it). This doesn't change even if I move the layer to the very top, or make the font as huge as anything...

I know it's got to do with the settings, but I can't imagine what it could be. It's the same on both my home and work computers. Can anyone help?
